When shopping for a new car, one of the biggest factors in making a decision comes down to this: the overall safety.

The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan was recently named 2020 Top Safety Pick Rating by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The list consists of 64 cars and SUVs and in order to qualify, those vehicles must have good ratings in each of the Institute's six crash-worthiness evaluations.

IIHS generally uses four ratings-good, acceptable, marginal, and poor-and in order to qualify for Top Safety Picks, vehicles must receive a “good rating” across all six of its crash tests. They also need to offer available front-crash-prevention technology that is satisfactory in both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian situations.

The 2020 Tiguan earned good ratings in the six crash-worthiness evaluations and a super rating for the Front Assist system-which is now standard on all Tiguan models. In addition to Front Assist, other driver assistance features offered on the 2020 Tiguan include: standard Blind Spot Monitor (Side Assist), and Rear Traffic Alert, and available Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping System (Lane Assist), and Overhead View Camera (Area View).

This is the third year the Tiguan has been a Top Safety Pick.
