Just in time for the Honda Civic Type R debut, the Honda Civic hits an impressive milestone. Fifty years ago this month, we were gifted with the award-winning Honda Civic. Ever since, we have watched it evolve and become one of the best-selling sedans in the United States.
What debuted in 1972 as a humbled two-door coupe wearing for the first time the Civic moniker is now an icon with people of all ages. Now in its 11th generation, the Civic celebrates its 50th anniversary with some 27.5 million sales after its market launch.
